Then the Basic Newbury House Dictionary of American English is the book you seek. This book provides definitions of common terms including glass and rabbit, as well as, common phrases like “just for kicks.” The middle portion of the text contains 40 color pages with animals, fruits, items used in personal hygiene, names of continents, and much more. This dictionary covers only basic terms and does not have the coverage of a larger dictionary like Merriam-Webster. It is available in the Reference Collection at the Shakopee, Brooklyn Center, Woodbury (Globe), St. Cloud, and Plymouth campuses.
