More than 850 staff and faculty from Globe University/Minnesota School of Business and Broadview University demonstrated “we care” as they volunteered for 2,865 hours in communities throughout Minnesota, Wisconsin, South Dakota and Utah on Friday, May 21, 2010. The day was the schools’ dedicated Community Service Day in which employees from 23 locations volunteered with organizations that ranged from the Yellow Ribbon Network, Habitat for Humanity and Ronald McDonald House, to elementary schools, community food shelves and local parks and trails, among many others.

In Sioux Falls, for example, all full-time Globe University faculty and staff and some students volunteered at the State Special Olympic Games to help with a variety of events, including power lifting, soccer skills, team soccer, and team volleyball. Similarly, in Utah, our staff members from the Broadview University-Orem campus spent the day at a fundraiser for Kids on the Move, a non-profit organization dedicated to serving developmentally challenged children. Our staff volunteered as referees, scorekeepers and administrative support at ten different sports challenges.
In addition, Broadview University’s Layton campus picked up garage in their neighborhood, while the West Jordan campus participated in a fundraiser for Utah’s homeless pets, worked at the Habitat for Humanity ReStore, and helped the Head Start program and St. Vincent DePaul Resource Center.

Our six Globe University campuses in Wisconsin completed a variety of projects for several organizations, including: Habitat for Humanity, WAFER Food Pantry and Crucifixion School in La Crosse; Habitat for Humanity, Delong Middle School, Feed My People Food Bank, Beaver Creek Nature Reserve, Manz Elementary School, and the Girl Scouts in Eau Claire; the NEW Zoo in Green Bay; Middleton Outreach Ministry in Middleton; Gus Macker/Madison Neighborhood House in Madison; and Randlin Home/Hope House in Wausau.
In Minnesota, our Globe University/Minnesota School of Business volunteers picked up garbage along several roadsides, community and county parks and trails; cleaned, painted and gardened for veterans, schools, summer camps, art galleries, homes for hospitalized patients’ families, and nursing homes; and packaged food at several food banks.
The Institute of Production and Recording and Minnesota School of Cosmetology have their Community Service Days scheduled in the near future. Next week, IPR staff and faculty will clean up a section of the Mississippi River shoreline that they have adopted. In July, MSC will volunteer for an environmental cause.
