Meet and greet with officers :)
Do you have questions about things the police do?
Do you wonder why the police purposely blinds you with lights at night, when they pull you over?
Are you just interested in a daily life of a police officer?
We were granted to opportunity to have Monique Drier the Community Liaison come and speak to our class. She spoke to us about her daily job duties and upcoming events. Monique is based out of the Brooklyn Center Police Department and is currently working on a project that is binding the community with the officers. She spoke to us about the rough times the officers were having with the language barrier and how the littlest things are done differently in separate parts of the world. Monique said in Liberia, when they are pulled over by the police, Liberians immediately get out the car and walk back to the officers as a sign of respect, Whereas here in America that could be taken as force and the scene could turn ugly.
Monique also touched on the fact that the crime rate is dropping because people are now seeing eye to eye with what the officers duties are and the reason for flashing light and.
If you guys and gals aren’t busy, Monique will be holding another “Meet the police and get your questions answered” meeting at the Brooklyn Park City Hall Council Chambers @ 5200 85th Ave. North- Brooklyn Park, MN 55443 w/ different meeting dates of Tuesday, September 22, October 27 and November 24 w/ times for all of 6:30- 8:30!
I will try and make it out to the September 22 meeting and let everyone know how it was and hopefully take some pictures!!
Also– If you are interested in visiting a prison facility– Please email me, Monique will be assisting us on this journey and she wants at least 10 people to go! ….email me your interest at jermikacraft@yahoo.com
