CJ Dean Update
Thank you folks for commenting on the blog and your campus. It is always good to see student’s opinions. The Bachelors in Science in Criminal Justice started this fall. So far we have 38 students enrolled. We also have 402 students in the Associate in Applied Science in Criminal Justice. These numbers include all our campuses in five states. It took us a littleover one year to go from 100 studnets to 440. So we must be doing things right.
The Blaine campus has the most students with 53 with the St. Cloud campus coming in a close second.
The St Cloud Criminal Justice (CJ) Club is still active and the Woodbury campus CJ club is soliciting members. If you have not started a CJ club at your campus yet, it is worth starting one. It is a good way to network with the local CJ community and to get speakers for a class. There are a lot of CJ practitioners that would love to share their knowledge so try to get to know them.
From all of us at Globe; we hope you have a happy holiday. John France

16yr old male beaten to death!
This makes ME want to have the “Eye for an Eye Law” !
I’m pretty sure that everyone has read or heard about Derrion Albert who was 16 years old and beaten to death. He was a sophomore at Christian Fenger Academy High School and got into a fight with three other boys who punched, kicked and stomped him until he stopped moving.
Reading stories like this makes you wonder more and more about the world we live in today. I would honestly have to say that males growing up today have it very rough and hard. Males have to prove there man hood and how tough they are by standing up to everyone including teachers, bully’s and even the police. As a parent I would say that he should of got help or ran away from the fight but, was that really possible? That links back to one of my recent blogs of the girl who was jumped by two other girls when getting off the bus, Did she try to run away, and now was later cornered? When a male runs from a fight he is then known as a punk and of course now we can all say “Being a punk is better than being dead” but, have you ever been placed in a situation like that? I don’t want to down size Chicago but, If you have never lived in Chicago, then you will never really know.

Meet and greet with officers :)
Do you have questions about things the police do?
Do you wonder why the police purposely blinds you with lights at night, when they pull you over?
Are you just interested in a daily life of a police officer?
We were granted to opportunity to have Monique Drier the Community Liaison come and speak to our class. She spoke to us about her daily job duties and upcoming events. Monique is based out of the Brooklyn Center Police Department and is currently working on a project that is binding the community with the officers. She spoke to us about the rough times the officers were having with the language barrier and how the littlest things are done differently in separate parts of the world. Monique said in Liberia, when they are pulled over by the police, Liberians immediately get out the car and walk back to the officers as a sign of respect, Whereas here in America that could be taken as force and the scene could turn ugly.
Monique also touched on the fact that the crime rate is dropping because people are now seeing eye to eye with what the officers duties are and the reason for flashing light and.
If you guys and gals aren’t busy, Monique will be holding another “Meet the police and get your questions answered” meeting at the Brooklyn Park City Hall Council Chambers @ 5200 85th Ave. North- Brooklyn Park, MN 55443 w/ different meeting dates of Tuesday, September 22, October 27 and November 24 w/ times for all of 6:30- 8:30!
I will try and make it out to the September 22 meeting and let everyone know how it was and hopefully take some pictures!!
Also– If you are interested in visiting a prison facility– Please email me, Monique will be assisting us on this journey and she wants at least 10 people to go! ….email me your interest at jermikacraft@yahoo.com
Is this my welcoming party? ha
Well I want to start off by saying Hello to everyone and that I am so excited to apart of the “Criminal Justice Blog” I am so excited to pass the word around and let others know of the place where they can come to hear about the latest Crime Scenes, stories and maybe get a couple questions answered. This is going to be so much fun and I hope you enjoy my blogs that are to come and please leave comments if you have anything that you would like for me to blog about or even if you didn’t agree with something I said. I have NO problem with criticism, it helps me to fix things right for the next time!
Most of the things I blog about are 100% real and meant a lot to me and/or it was an important matter that I felt should be passed along to others!

CJ Club at Woodbury
Two Globe University Woodbury Criminal Justice students, Cheryl Sticha and John Love, have started a Criminal Justice (CJ) Club at the Woodbury, MN. Globe University Campus.
On June 2, 2009, Cheryl and John had the first CJ Club meeting. Two of the officers of the MSB St. Cloud CJ Club, Leander Kollar and Michelle Ludowese, met with Cheryl and John to provide start up information. Program Legal/CJ Coordinator Dan Brown and CJ A/Dean John France were in attendance and they spoke with the group.
Woodbury members are looking forward to collaborating with the St. Cloud Club in networking throughout the community. The next Woodbury CJ Club meeting will be held on June 23, 2009 at the Globe University Campus in Woodbury.
Guest Speaker
The CJ211 Criminal Investigation class at Woodbury was privileged to have another guest speaker on the evening of June 2, 2009. The guest speaker was a convicted meth addict that has been clean for over five years. The speaker shared his experiences and how drugs have been problematic in his life since the age of seven. He stated that his greatest influence to help him stop has been his wife. He met her after prison.
Our guest was very frank with us on how drugs have not only made life very hard but that drugs were hard on his health as well. He advised that when he was on drugs the only thing that really mattered what getting the next high. Now he states he has a pretty good job and he will not do anything adverse to his employer or to his family.
I must say it was quite the experience to have a guest that has gone through so many things sharing his experiences with the class. He is a success story in spite of the obstacles he has lived though. I would like to publicly thank him for sharing his life with us.
Guest Speaker at CJ class in Woodbury
The criminal investigation class at Globe University Woodbury campus was privileged to have Detective Marie Johnson, a 16 year veteran law enforcement officer, from the Blaine Minnesota Police Department as a guest speaker on June 2, 2009.
Detective Johnson presented the students with an eye opening experience on how criminal investigations are conducted in her jurisdiction. She used a PowerPoint demonstration to present the material plus she showed the students how to collect and package evidence.
The class was very pleased to have such a knowledgeable practitioner of law enforcement take valuable time out of her day to talk to the class.
Jail Audit of Pinellas County Florida
Associate Dean of Criminal Justice John France assisted the American Correctional Association with a reaccreditation audit of the Pinellas County Adult Detention Center in Largo Florida. He was there from May 5-May 7, 2009.
John has been an accreditation auditor with the American Correctional Association since 1999 and he has conducted 10 audits of pretrial detention facilities in the United States.
Pinellas County is accredited by three different accreditation bodies. They have received what is known as the “Triple Crown”. This means the sheriff’s office has met the accreditation standards of The Commission of Accreditation for Law Enforcement, (CALEA) The National Commission of Correctional Health Care (NCCHC) and the American Correctional Association (ACA).
The Triple Crown is held by only 30 out of over 3,100 sheriff’s offices in the United States. http://www.pcsoweb.com/pages/accreditation.html It is quite an accomplishment and it shows the community the professionalism, dedication and high standards of the staff in the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.
March 24, 2009 Woodbury Campus Sheriff’s Office Guest Speakers
On March 24, 2009, our CJ100 class was fortunate enough to have two representatives from the Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office Communication Division as guest speakers.
Representing the Sheriff’s Office was Captain Brian Tollin, Division Commander and Cathy Anderson, Telecommunicator/trainer.
They presented a PowerPoint slide show on the Communications Division and the many aspects of how important police/fire and emergency medical services communications are to our communities.
Their presentation was much appreciated and very well presented.
