Auto Insurance Clinic

Monday, our Torts class hosted a very successful Insurance clinic where paralegal students were able to help other students with their questions about car insurance under supervision from an attorney. For those who missed it, they are following it up next week with round two. The clinic will be held next Thursday evening, March 11th from 6:30-8:30pm. Students are encouraged to ask questions or share problems pertaining to auto insurance. The paralegal students will then research those questions, discuss it with the supervising attorney, and provide follow up to provide the information requested.

Dollars for Haitians - an overwhelming success

It brings me tremendous pleasure to be able to post this message. Last Wednesday, we were given the opportunity to raise as much money as possible to support the Red Cross and their humanitarian efforts in Haiti in the wake of devastating earthquakes. Globe Education Network generously offered to match any funds that we could raise by end of day Friday. Here at the West Jordan campus, we managed to pull together an amazing $503.62 in just over 48 hours. This means that our students, faculty and staff are responsible for a donation of more than $1,000 going to help disaster victims. I am in awe at the generosity displayed last week, and I want to thank everyone who participated from the bottom of my heart for all of their support.

Vet Tech Students Hold Holiday Pet Food Drive

December 22, 2009, 7:32AM MT
By Ellen Gilmore, campaign specialist, First Home Forever Home

Devoted to making a positive difference for pets in need, a group of veterinary tech students at Utah Career College in Salt Lake City recently conducted a holiday pet food drive resulting in 892 pounds of dog and cat food that they donated to the Utah Food Bank last weekend to help feed pets in need this holiday season.

“We collect food and toys each year for local shelters,” explained Kati Santigo, president of the Student Chapter of the National Association of Veterinary Technicians of America (SCNAVTA) at Utah Career College.  This year the group focused on the need for pet food to help families in need keep their pets.

According to Santigo, the vet students provide care to shelter animals throughout the year and learn “from and about them along with our traditional education of books and lecture.”  The group also works to find homes for these pets rather than returning them to the shelter.

“The shelters . . . are being overrun by people having to turn in their pets, because of the economic downturn, so our thought was if we can help keep people from having to turn in their pets, everybody wins,” Santigo said.  “So this year we donated directly to the Utah Food Bank,”  to help families in need also receive food for their pets.

Santigo also added a special thanks “to Allen and his team at Associated Fresh Market in Lehi, UT for donating over 200 lbs of miscellaneous dog and cat food to this terrific cause.”

The students are also making plans to continue food drive efforts throughout the year.

West Jordan Campus is pleased to announce…

Utah Career College would like to wish everyone a safe and joyous Holiday Season! We are also pleased to announce that over half of our 68 Angel Tree Ornaments have been taken and returned with the requested gifts. You still have the opportunity to be an angel for one of our students this year, so if you have a minute to stop by the Angel Tree, please check out the remaining ornaments to see if you can become someone’s angel and help give one more child a Christmas. Angel Tree Gifts need to be turned into the Education Office or to Debbie McFarlane-Clayton no later than Friday December 18th. We need to have time to get them wrapped and delivered in time to make Christmas Dreams come true.
Also, since the New Year is just around the corner, Winter Quarter is coming up very quickly. Please, please, please, if you have not yet registered for next quarter, IMMEDIATELY do so. Classes that you and/or your classmates may need for graduation could be cancelled beginning next week!!!
