On March 11 members of the Globe University – Sioux Falls Medical Assistant Medical Administrative Assistant student group (MAMAAs) participated in the 4th Annual Sioux Falls St. Baldrick’s Day. The group raised $1200 to be donated to the charity by taking pledges to have 2 students, Erica Arends and Sarah Miller, donate their hair to Locks of Love and one staff member, Josh Ring, shave his head in honor of the event.
St. Baldrick’s is the world’s largest volunteer-driven fundraising event for childhood cancer research. At Foundation events all throughout the year, brave volunteers shave their heads, raising funds for childhood cancer research. Like runners in a marathon, “shavees” collect donations from friends, family and associates. The St. Baldrick’s Foundation receives these funds and makes grants to research experts to find new and better cures for fighting kids’ cancer.
More than 70 people, both men and women, shaved their heads to raise a little more than $20,000 to go the national charity. The members of the Globe University – MAMAAs were very happy with their efforts and will definitely be participating in the event next year. Check out GU-SF’s Facebook page for pictures!
