Life’s all about the RACE!

Sometimes learning more about who we are-beyond what’s on the surface-needs to deliberately happen at exhibits that are intended to open our eyes and ears to assumed differences! The “Race: Are We So Different?” exhibit taking place at the Rochester Public Library is doing just that by challenging our preconceived notions about race. Last week, three SS 103 sections spent a couple hours learning more about this topic by touring the exhibit. At the very least, eyes were opened and perspectives were expanded. Check out their visit by following the link: Race Exhibit

Augusts’ Study Tip of the Month

Considering that midterms are coming up soon, try taking a few of these tips about study habits to heart. Perhaps it will help you become more effective! Stop into the Student Resource Center anytime if you’d like more help with academic tips to success.

Tip: Begin studying no less than 30-90 minutes after a meal.

Tip: Never study within 30 minutes of going to sleep.

Tip: Prioritize! Make a list of what you intend to study, prioritize the list, and stick to it!

Tip: If possible, study no more than 30-40 minutes at a stretch. Many students retain more by studying for short periods with breaks in between. It all depends on what you’re trying to study, but generally, after a period of study, take a break.

Tip: Take study breaks away from your desk or wherever you are studying. Let the break be a time to think about other things. Use some break time to reflect, not constantly review what you have just studied.

A Fistful of Candy!

Yippy ki yay! What do outlaws, bandits, and cowboys have in common with MSB-Rochester! Nothing, other than Chatfield Western Days! Our bronco-bucking buckaroos, from half-pints to tall glasses of water, moseyed on down to Chatfield yonder for the annual “Western Days” celebration on the 14th. Grub (cotton candy and corn dogs are vestiges of the Wild West!) was enjoyed, cattle were branded (okay, not really, but those who failed to apply suntan lotion felt a little sunburned!), and the MSB posse (aka staff, faculty, and students), with their ten-gallon buckets of candy and two-stepping talent, rode and walked west, east, north, and south (remember, it was a parade route!) in their Chevy-pulled MSB float/carriage for the parade. With a year’s time to mend the saddle wear and tired dogs, MSB will undoubtedly round up the most wanted suspects for next year’s parade!
