Texting And Driving!
Monday, March 15, between 11-12:30 the Paralegal students in a “WE CARE” mission will be hosting a “TEXTING WHILE DRIVING” event in the student commons.  Join them for facts, statistics, laws, and fun events that will test your skills and knowledge of this growing liability!

Alexandra House Donation Drive!
March is women’s history month, and to make a difference in our community, we are hosting a donation drive this week to gather needed goods for the women of the Alexandra House, a shelter for battered women and children in Blaine. Bring in personal hygiene products, baby care supplies, and bathroom necessities! Bins to place your donated items in are at the elevators on each floor, and in the Academic Department!

Celebrate Women in Music Event!
The Music Business program and students are promoting an exciting event celebrating Women in Music! The event will take place at the Fine Line Music Cafe in Minneapolis, MN on Tuesday, Apr. 6! Doors open at 5:00pm, panel at 6:00pm, a social hour at 7:00pm, and the concert beginning at 8pm featuring The Watson Twins. Tickets available at Ticketmaster, however, students get a special discount rate on Tuesday, Mar. 16 11:00am-1:00pm and 3:00-6:00pm in the Front Lobby!

Make Your Own Financial Luck Workshop!
St. Patrick’s Day is here, and the Financial Aid Department is here to help you make your own financial luck! On Mar. 17, Financial Aid is putting on a financial planning and responsibility workshop, filled with lots of great practical money managing information! Further details to come! Mark your calendars and save the date!

Graduation Garb:
Caps and gowns are in for March graduates. Stop by the Career Services Department to pick yours up!

Graduation:

Congrats, DEX Participants and Winners!!

Last week, MSB Richfield’s DEX organization sent three student members to the regional competition in Mankato! Two of the three students even placed!

 

Tim Carlson won FIRST PLACE in Financial Services!

Mike Wickenhauser won THIRD PLACE in Financial Services!

Nancy Razim also participated!

 

Tim and Mike will go on to the NATIONALS in Louisville, Kentucky late in April!

Decisions on course cancellations (due to low enrollment) and additions (due to high enrollment) are based on registration numbers for those who register on time, so it is very important for you and your classmates to complete this task early. Once low enrollment classes are gone, they’re GONE!

Withdraw Deadline:
Friday, Mar. 5 at 4:00pm is the final deadline for students to withdraw from any courses for Winter Quarter and receive a “W” on his or her transcript. After this deadline, the grade posted for the course is the grade earned.

Community Service Scholarship: To reward students for community service and continued enrollment, each Globe University and Minnesota School of Business campus offers two community service scholarships per quarter to qualifying applicants. In honor of registration beginning over Mardi Gras week, for THIS WEEK ONLY the Academic Department is hosting a Registration Mardi Gras Party, complete with free snacks, Mardi Gras fruit punch, and BEADS for every course you register for!! As incentive, every student who registers by Friday, Feb. 19 AT 4:00pm gets their name in a drawing to win a Nintendo Wii!

Valentines for Senior Citizens!
On Tuesday, Feb. 9, 12:00-1:00pm and 5:00-6:00pm in the Student Commons, we’re making valentine cards for our local senior citizen residents at Richfield Health Center! Paper, scissors, glue, and glitter will all be provided - and some treats too! Stop in to make a quick valentine and give a little love to the seniors in our community this Valentine’s Day holiday!

Graduation Meetings: Students graduating in March MUST attend one of the following meetings to fill out the necessary paperwork: Tuesday, Feb. 9, 6:00 – 7:00pm in room 306 or Thursday, Feb. 11, 12:30-1:30pm in room 509. 

Cover Letter and Resume Workshop! Wednesday, Feb. 10 make sure your cover letters and resumes are the best they can be! At the workshop, we will cover resume and cover letter basics, as well as provide resume worksheets and sample cover letters. Feel free to bring in your own resume or cover letter to the workshop; we will happily give you feedback on it!

Presidents’ Day: Next Monday, campus will be closed in honor of the holiday. No classes will meet as campus will be closed.

Spirit Week!
Next Week is Spirit Week! To celebrate and show off your school spirit, there will be PRIZES for students caught wearing MSB gear!! If you’re interested in purchasing some new MSB gear, stop by the Student Accounts office on first floor, where it is sold!

Student Appreciation Day!
For Winter Quarter Student Appreciation Day, we’re hosting a Coldstone Creamery Sundae Bar, with some hot cocoa to wash it down!! Stop down to the Student Commons on Tuesday, Feb. 2, 11:00am-1:00pm and 4:00-6:00pm for some tasty treats and FUN!

Library Closed: Due to construction, the library will be closed and unavailable for student access Wednesday, Jan 27 - Friday, Feb. 5. The adjoining computer lab WILL still be open, however. Please plan accordingly.

Health Care Job Fair!
Please plan to attend the Healthcare Career Exploration Fair this Wednesday, Feb 3.  Excellent employers will be available in the Student Commons from 10:30am-1:30pm to talk with you about their organizations and potential employment opportunities.  Don’t miss it!!

AODA Week!
This week (Jan. 25-29), MSB is hosting an Alcohol and Other Drug Awareness Week, promoting healthy lifestyle choices! There are lots of fun events planned including: a blood drive, a pizza sale with proceeds going to MADD, a student survey with prizes, informational posters around campus, and MORE! Stay tuned to your student email for further details!

Pizza Sale!
As part of AODA Week, on Tuesday, Jan. 26, in the Student Commons there will be Papa John’s pizza slices for sale! All of the proceeds will go directly to MADD (Mothers Against Drunk Driving)! Pizza sales will run 12:00-1:00pm and 5:00-6:00pm! Stop by and get some good munchies while supporting a great cause!

Memorial Blood Centers Blood Drive!
As part of AODA Week, we are hosting a blood drive! Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010, 2:30-5:30pm Memorial Blood Center will be here to collect blood donations! We still have plenty of open slots for you to sign up to donate! See Sarah French to sign up to donate blood and save a life!

Career Fair Success Strategies Workshop!
Career Services will be offering a Career Fair Success Strategies workshop on Wednesday, Jan. 27, from 12:30-1:00pm & 5:30-6:00pm in room 501.  All students are encouraged to attend!  We’ll cover career fair etiquette and other strategies for success!

Benefit Raffle for Haiti Relief Efforts

In an effort to help the people of Haiti, MSB Richfield is hosting a raffle in order to raise funds to be donated to the Red Cross to assist relief efforts.

For every dollar that you donate, your name goes into a drawing for one of two $25 Target gift cards!!

So if you donate $25 to a great cause, you just may get that money back in a Target gift card! What a bonus! J
