Great job students on the World Expo! I did not know what to expect and I found your creativity wonderful and beyond my expectations! I really liked the fact that each display was different. I also learned some interesting things about some countries that I knew nothing about. Great job!

The City of Moorhead and would like to offer an incentive to college students to get out and sandbag this week. If you show your student ID, you will be given a voucher to bring back to Student Services that is good for $10.00 off your books for Spring quarter for every 2 hours you donate.
According to the Valley News Live web site, Moorhead has only filled 57,000 sandbags. While this seems like a lot, their goal is 300,000.
In Moorhead:
Moorhead Public Works Garage
15th Ave. N.
Monday-Saturday, 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
Sunday, 12 noon-7 p.m.
Do not forget that your sandbagging efforts will also qualify you to apply for the Community Service Scholarship!

According to the United Blood Service Web Site:
“Medical advances and modern surgical techniques, such as cancer treatments, organ transplants, and open heart surgery, have increased the need for blood. Depending on patients’ needs, your blood may be separated into several different components, which may be used to treat a variety of medical conditions or illnesses.
Red Blood Cells: anemia
Platelets: leukemia, cancer
Plasma: blood clotting disorders
Cryoprecipitate: hemophilia
Blood is separated into components so that several patients may benefit from one blood donation.”

The Ronald McDonald House
The Education Department spent some time giving back to our community by volunteering. The Ronald McDonald house provides a much needed service in the community and has two campuses. The campus we visited has room for six families to stay. In order to qualify for services, you need to have a child under 18 years of age who has been admitted to the hospital. People often think primarily of premature infants who stay for extended times after delivery; however, we quickly learned that was not the only case! Rooms are available on a first-come first-served basis; they ask for a $15 per night donation. There is an amazing kitchen, and they have fridge space as well as access to group canned goods and frozen foods at no cost.
Jodi Ost, Harmony Venburg, Erik Block and Nikki Rude did some cleaning and vacuuming, as well as working on a labeling project for their upcoming fundraiser. Everyone was very nice and grateful for our help!
Erik was the most appreciated because he was willing to shovel snow! Go Erik!
