Cans for Cats

Middleton’s Vet Tech students are collecting Cans for Cats!  Please donate your rinsed aluminum cans in the bins located in the Commons area by Friday, September 11.  Remember, lots of your pet food comes in cans—Friskies, Fancy Feast, Wellness, etc.  Funds from the recycled aluminum will go to buy much needed supplies, such as cat litter, canned cat food, and dry cat and dog food for Valley of the Kings, a sanctuary dedicated to the rescue of abused and injured big cats.

Student Appreciation Celebrates Bright Futures

“Your future’s so bright, we gotta wear shades!” proclaimed the fliers placed around the Middleton campus last week.  Globe-Middleton held its first ever Student Appreciation event from August 14-August 17.  To show our gratitude for our dedicated learners, administrative staff threw a picnic-themed party in the commons.  Students enjoyed sub sandwiches, chips, and soda, beach music, and good conversation.

Thank you again to all Middleton students; without you, we wouldn’t have a campus!

Globe University: Wildlife Reserve?

In addition to the human traffic that passes through Middleton’s parking lot on a daily basis, a local flock of geese has taken to waddling around on campus.  (They have also been spotted in front of the bus stop early in the morning, the Dean of Students reports.)  They are not the friendliest of birds; however, it has been confirmed by a reliable source that the best way to respond to a hissing goose is to just hiss back.  Hopefully, our resident waterfowls will start to feel as at-home and happy on campus as staff and students do.

Middleton’s Team Plays Better in the Rain than the Mallards Do

Ducks may not take to water as well as the old saying suggests.  The Madison Mallards, at any rate, decided not to play after the top of the second drizzly inning on Friday, July 24.  But the rain didn’t crush the spirits of the Middleton staff and faculty in attendance.   In celebration of their successful first start, members of the Globe-Middleton team gathered to watch the baseball game together after work.  Our own Bill Vache, director of Financial Aid, threw out the first pitch.  During the two-hour rain delay, MD enjoyed free food and beverages in the Duck Blind, took photos with team mascots, and anticipated competing in the dizzy-bat race.   (Unfortunately, the game was called before Jodi, Colleen, Krista, and Hector could participate.)  Everyone who attended had a delightful time, and all are looking forward to using their rain checks in the near future.

Middleton’s Start a Success

On Thursday, July 16, excited new students gathered for the first time to attend Middleton’s first New Student Orientation.  They toured the brand new campus building, met and mingled with other students in their programs, learned some important policies and procedures, posed for student IDs, and enjoyed pizza.   Energy ran high among staff and learners alike.  Two weeks later, the enthusiasm is still noticeable in the classrooms and commons.  Seventy Globe University – Middleton students have successfully completed their first two weeks of coursework and are looking forward to more.  Congratulations to faculty, staff, and students for a fantastic first quarter start!

New Weekend Hours on Middleton Campus

Need a place to study on the weekend?  Wish you had computer and Internet access on days you don’t have class?  You’re in luck, because the Middleton campus is now open for students on Saturdays from 8:30 am to 2:30 pm!  The library will be closed, but you are welcome to use the commons and the computer stations.  (Please bring your flash drive or be prepared to email your work to yourself, as the lab printers may not be available.)

Grand Opening of Globe-Middleton’s Academic Skills Center (ASC)

August 3rd is the Grand Opening of Globe-Middleton’s Academic Skills Center (ASC)!

The Academic Skills Center can assist you in your academic, personal, and professional development with the help of our Peer and Faculty/Staff Coaches. All you need to do is ASC A Coach!

ASC is located in the Book Room (off the Commons, near Room 101) and will be open Monday-Thursday according to the schedule posted on the door.

·         A new schedule is posted every week to accommodate our Coaches’ own work and school schedules.

·         If a coach is available in your subject area, you can simply walk in, sign in, and have a 30-minute coaching session.

·         To be sure that you’ll have a coach available, you can also sign up ahead of time and schedule a 30-minute coaching session. And remember: scheduling a coaching session is like scheduling any appointment. If you can’t make the appointment, please be sure to remove your name from the list or call our front desk.

·         The name of each Coach, and the subjects s/he can cover, are also posted. If you see “Study Buddy” next to a Coach’s name, it means that the Coach may or may not know the subject area; however, s/he can assist you with flash card drills, Q&A drills, and other subject review methods.

As ASC grows, we will add brief workshops such as Computer Bootcamp, Financial Planning, Job & Scholarship Hunt, and much more!

Information about ASC rules, how to become a Coach, and ASC Mission are available starting August 3rd.
